Our City Island Page

The allure of City Island reflects its 300 years of ongoing nautical activity. For recreation, there is boating, fishing and scuba diving. Walk along City Island Avenue and browse the many art galleries and antique and curio shops. And, of course, the famous City Island seafood can be sampled at more than 30 restaurants. Wonderful examples of 17th and 18th century architecture and the City Island Museum and Historical Society round out the City Island experience -- quite a package for an island a mile and a half long and a half mile wide.

By car, it's 10 minutes to Westchester and 35 minutes to Manhattan. An MTA bus runs regularly to the Bay Plaza shopping and entertainment center, stopping at Pelham Bay Station for direct IRT/subway service to Manhattan. There is also express bus service to Manhattan and back twice a day.

The Pelham and Split Rock golf courses are within one mile of City Island, and Pelham Bay Park, New York's largest park, surrounds all roads on the way to the Island with hiking, jogging, roller blading and biking trails. Montefiore Medical Center is 4 miles away. Four houses of worship on the Island serve the major faiths.

City Island's children walk to school and have active sporting and social lives. Its adult residents participate in annual parades, contribute their artistic efforts to its galleries, amateur theatrical productions and are active in its churches and civic associations. City Islander's call themselves "clamdiggers" when they are born on the Island, and chide those who were born elsewhere as "mussel suckers".

Atlantic Emeritus Realty is proud to be a member of the City Island community. Bob Carmody, the owner, and all of the agents of the brokerage live and work on the Island and are committed to the preservation of our unique seaside community.
